Say It: Yuyuan (yoo-yooahn) means pleasing/satisfying garden
Smack dab in the old section of Shanghai is a five-acre classical garden called Yuyuan Garden.
A government official of the Ming Dynasty named Pan Yunduan built this garden for his parents to enjoy in their old age. He completed it in 1577.
After it fell into disrepair over the centuries, the Shanghai government restored it and opened it to the public in 1961.
Over 400 years old, Yuyuan Garden has beautiful pavilions, ponds, halls, gardens, and rockeries.
